Hey guys!
Great job today. The theme was easy on the eye and all of the information was presented really well. I really liked how you explained how all of the organizations were intertwined by using the umbrella example. It made it easy for us as your audience to follow what was going on and helped throughout the presentation.
I also enjoyed how you included all of the celebrity influences within Pledge to Play 60 campaign. I think I can speak for the class when I say the Beyonce video you included was a hit! I also thought it was clever to be wearing jerseys as you presented.
Good job girls!!

Good job, ladies. I found the topic to be interesting. It's true that football is inherently American and the fact that the NFL is getting involved with the youth is great, especially when we live in an age where obesity is on the up-rise.

I liked how you actually showed us the website and critiqued what you thought could have made it more user-friendly and age appropriate.

I also liked your comparison to other similar campaigns and how this one stresses more individualization over where a child falls in the national percentile, like older efforts.

I learned a lot! Thanks!

Great job ladies!!

It was obvious that you worked hard on your case study and you did a great job of explaining it to the class.

You did a great job of explaining how there are so many contributors to this campaign and how this has led to the great success it has received. I think there is a lot to be taken away from what the NFL has done with the Play 60 campaign and it can be applied to PR campaigns for other companies.

I think what I found most interesting though is how little your contact knew about the role of the NFL and who was in charge. I am shocked that someone so involved would know so little about the company in charge of the overall campaign. Also how you had such a challenge contacting someone involved from the NFL. I just would have assumed that for a campaign like this, especially being so successful, that this would be easy. I wonder why the NFL has such a anonymous role in the campaign and if this is done on purpose.

That being said I was amazed with how much information you were able to uncover and I think that shows just how much time went into your project. Your comparison to other campaigns was also especially informative and I think really showed your deep understanding of the Play 60 campaign.

Danielle & Sara

As someone who lives and breathes collegiate football everyday, this is a program that is near & dear to my heart. I am a huge proponent of physical fitness and the use of professional sports organizations to further our fight against obesity. In fact, my group's COMM 471 campaign centered around former Penn State All-American & current New York Jet Aaron Maybin's non-profit organization, Project Mayhem.

A quick aside via Aly's comment...that Beyonce video was indeed a hit, at least for me! ;-)

Now, overall I found your presentation to be well-structured and the information within your case study insightful. However, I echo Professor Nichols' statements that I am looking for something more concrete in the form of metrics.

Danielle - Your response to Prof. Nichols' metric related question was inconclusive. I am surprised that Play 60 will be spending upwards of 3 years in "fact finding" mode...and do you really think it is possible to develop individual plans based off of the information found? You alluded to this in your answer and I question its validity.

Anyway - I think Play 60 is off to a wonderful start, but there may be holes in the proverbial umbrella. There seems to be a lack of communication between invovled parties, and I am suprised at that. The NFL can be a fickle and slow moving beast, and I doubt much will be changed in the short term.

Well Done.

hey girls!
great job with your presentation! the apples went very well with the topic at hand!

that being said, i enjoyed how you picked a topic that the class had already been familiarized with. by doing the F is For Fat study, the class was already familiarized with the harmful effects of obesity and how the problem needs a solution ASAP!

the pledge to play 60 campaign is a great start to that solution! by making staying active sound fun and connecting it to a famous american past time, i feel it was very easy to get youth involved.

the only thing that crossed my mind was do girls participate in the pledge to play 60 as much as boys may? this only occurred to me because the topic was brought up that the flag football was co-ed. but even though it is co-ed are girls still willing to participate in this movement?

if they weren't looking to beyonce was definitely a good call for the campaign because she appeals to girls who are looking for a role model, and also boys because of other reasons! haha!

but great job, i really enjoyed it!

I loved the concept of the umbrella, it made the presentation so much easier to understand! In saying that, your presentation seemed to shed light on a few flaws with the program. The website is a bit advanced, the fact that the different entities under Play 60 may not be getting the contact they prefer, or the issue of the pool of kids not living near an NFL team competing against everyone else. It honestly sounds like they have this flashy concept with some celebrities and NFL backing, but the real difference makers may be the less sexy smaller partners.

Great job with your analysis!

Hello ladies,

First of all, I'm glad you both dressed in your football jerseys, it was cute and presented a committed attitude to the campaign.

It is obvious that this campaign has numerous branches and affiliations and spans over a large variety of mediums. The contact that you made, however, seemed to provide a lot of useful information about the campaign.

This campaign is unique in that it is battling the childhood obesity epidemic while also promoting the NFL and its teams. Also, the many partners lend support to the cause while also promoting them as well.

I feel that this campaign is a great example for a company's self-promotion. Your presentation and research were extremely thorough and enjoyable to watch.

Great job to both of you!

Hi Girls,

I love that you quoted Newton’s First Law of Motion at the beginning of your report. This sets a very clear tone for the case study that links directly with the NFL Play 60 initiative.

I had not heard of this program before reading your case study, but I’m so happy that your group made me aware of it, particularly after doing so much research on childhood obesity so far this year. The NFL Play 60 has such a positive message: to make the next generation of youth active and healthy. This is a great topic especially because of the increasing rates of obesity in this country. By influencing children at a young age to live active and healthy lifestyles, our generation might finally be able to combat obesity and set it for a declining rate.

Great work you guys!
